We know that Ibn Battuta lied or someone add the lies on Ibn Taymiyah in his book of journey that People started beating him when he said “Indeed Allah descends to the lowest heaven of the world just as I am descending now. He then descended one step of the minbar.”
The falsehood of above quote is present on internet, Ibn Battuta also said regarding Ibn Taymiyah:
وكان بدمشق من كبار الفقهاء الحنابلة تقي الدين بن تيمية كبير الشام يتكلم في الفنون. إلا أن في عقله شيئاً. وكان أهل دمشق يعظمونه أشد التعظيم، ويعظهم على المنبر. وتكلم مرة بأمر أنكره الفقهاء، ورفعوه إلى الملك الناصر فأمر بإشخاصه إلى القاهرة، وجمع القضاة والفقهاء بمجلس الملك الناصر، وتكلم شرف الدين الزواوي المالكي وقال: إن هذا الرجل قال كذا وكذا، وعدد ما أنكر على ابن تيمية، وأحضر العقود بذلك ووضعها بين يدي قاضي القضاة وقال قاضي القضاة لابن تيمية: ما تقول ؟ قال: لا إله إلا الله فأعاد عليه فأجاب بمثل قوله. فأمر الملك الناصر بسجنه فسجن أعواماً. وصنف في السجن كتاباً في تفسير القرآن سماه البحر المحيط، في نحو أربعين مجلداً.
Taqi al din Ibn Taymiyah is included in one of the great fuqaha of Hanbalis in Damascus, he was highly noble (كبير الشام) who had knowledge of sciences, except that he had something in his mind. People of Damascus extremely praise him… (Due to accusations he went to the court) Sharf al din Zawawi said: This man said such and such.. Chief Justice asked Ibn Taymiyah what do you say? He replied There is no God but Allah. Qadhi again asked and he replied same. Malik Nasir imprisoned him and he remained in jail for many years and wrote tafsir of Quran in 40 volumes by the name of al Bahr al Muheet.
