Even brailwi scholars had to agree that it is better to ask Allah directly and no one else and there are extremists and jahil people who ask others beside Allah all the time.
Ghulam Rasool Saeedi Brailwi said:
The summary is that while it is permissible to seek help from others besides Allah with the aqeeda mentioned (I.e. real cause and effect is by Allah alone. Awliya can benefit in Majazi sense which is they become wasila), but IT IS PREFERRED AND BEST TO ASK ALLAH DIRECTLY for questions and seek assistance from Him, as mentioned in the hadith. I have extensively discussed the matter of seeking intercession and recourse to prophets and saints, as there is a tendency towards extremism from both sides in our time. Followers of scholars like Ibn Taymiyyah, Ibn al-Qayyim, and Ibn abd al-Hadi and scholars of Najd consider it impermissible and associating partners with Allah to ask help from them and after their passing away to seek supplication through their tawassul. And some extremists and ignorant people, Instead of asking Allah for what they need, they turn to others in every matter, they ask help only from them and make vows only for them.

This confirms me that those who ask Allah directly without any istigatha to auliyah. They will directly go to jannah tul firdous even according to brailwi scholars.
