Eternal Verses of Love: Ḥassān ibn Thābit (RA) in Praise of the Beloved Prophet ﷺ.
Ibn Qayyim said:
Muḥammad ibn ʿUthmān al-Ḥāfiẓ said:
It is authentically reported from Ḥabīb ibn Abī Thābit that Ḥassān recited poetry in the presence of the Prophet ﷺ, saying:
I testify, by Allah’s permission, that Muḥammad is
The Messenger of the One who is above the heavens, from on high.
…
The Prophet ﷺ then said: “And I also bear witness.”
Ḥassān also said in his famous Dāliyya poem in praise of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ:
Do you not see that Allah sent His servant,
With His proof, and Allah is Most High, Most Glorious?
And Allah joined the name of the Prophet to His own,
When the caller to prayer proclaims five times: ‘I bear witness.’
And He derived for him from His own Name to honour him:
The Lord of the Throne is Maḥmūd, and this is Muḥammad.
Bright upon him is the Seal of Prophethood,
From Allah, blessed, shining forth and bearing testimony.
