The Miracles of our Prophet peace be upon him.
The mu‘jizah (miracle) is the extraordinary sign with which Allah supports His Prophets and Messengers, and challenges people. [Islamqa]
Hafidh Ibn Kathir writes :
قَالَ شَيْخُنَا الْعَلَّامَةُ ابْنُ الزَّمْلَكَانِيِّ رَحِمَهُ اللَّهُ: وَأَمَّا مُعْجِزَاتُ عِيسَى عَلَيْهِ السَّلَامُ، فَمِنْهَا إِحْيَاءُ الْمَوْتَى، وَلِلنَّبِيِّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ مِنْ ذَلِكَ كَثِيرٌ، وَإِحْيَاءُ الْجَمَادِ أَبْلَغُ مِنْ إِحْيَاءِ الْمَيِّتِ، وَقَدْ كَلَّمَ النَّبِيُّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ الذِّرَاعَ الْمَسْمُومَةَ، وَهَذَا الْإِحْيَاءُ أَبْلَغُ مِنْ إِحْيَاءِ الْإِنْسَانِ الْمَيِّتِ مِنْ وُجُوهٍ:
أَحَدُهَا، أَنَّهُ إحياء جزء من الحيوان دون بقيته، وَهَذَا مُعْجِزٌ لَوْ كَانَ
مُتَّصِلًا بِالْبَدَنِ.
الثَّانِي أَنَّهُ أَحْيَاهُ وَحْدَهُ مُنْفَصِلًا عَنْ بَقِيَّةِ أَجْزَاءِ ذَلِكَ الْحَيَوَانِ مَعَ مَوْتِ الْبَقِيَّةِ.
الثَّالِثُ أَنَّهُ أَعَادَ عَلَيْهِ الْحَيَاةَ مَعَ الْإِدْرَاكِ وَالْعَقْلِ، وَلَمْ يَكُنْ هَذَا الْحَيَوَانُ يَعْقِلُ فى حياته الَّذِي هُوَ جُزْؤُهُ مِمَّا يَتَكَلَّمُ
قلت: وفي حلول الحياة والإدراك والعقل في الحجر الذي كان يخاطب النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم بالسلام عليه كما روي في صحيح مسلم من المعجز ما هو أبلغ من إحياء الحيوان في الجملة، لأنه كان محلا للحياة في وقت بخلاف هذا حيث لا حياة له بالكلية قبل ذلك، وكذلك تسليم الأحجار والمدر عليه وكذلك الأشجار والأغصان وشهادتها بالرسالة، وحنين الجذع.
“ Our Shaykh Allama Ibn Zamlakani (May Allah have mercy on him) said :‘ From the miracles of Eesa (Aleh Salam) was the reviving of dead, and Our Prophet Muhammad(peace be upon him) has more abundant than that . Bringing the Inanimate things to life is much greater than revival of dead. And indeed the poisoned meat talked with Prophet(peace be upon him).This revival is is greater than reviving a dead Human for the following reasons :
1stly he resurrected a part of an animal except the remaining.
2ndly ,he resurrected a part of an animal separated from the rest (which was dead) of it .
3rdly ,he resurrected an animal ,gave it back its life,sense and instincts .The animal didnt have sense (Aql) when it was alive ,part of which is to speak ( i,e it started speaking )
I (Ibn Kathir) say: The life, sense and instinct of stone which used to say Salam on the Prophet peace be upon him according to the narration of Sahih Muslim, is a bigger Miracle than the life of an animal, because (the stone) had a life for the moment (when it said salam) and previously it had no life at all. Likewise, the salam of the stones and clods of mud. And testimony of the trees and twigs for his Prophethood and sorrow of the tree trunk.
