Allah says in Surah Isra verse 56
(56. Say: “Call upon those – besides Him whom you pretend. They have neither the power to remove the adversity from you nor even to shift (it from you to another person).
Al Baydawi (d 685 AH) commented:
{ قُلِ ٱدْعُواْ ٱلَّذِينَ زَعَمْتُم }
أنها آلهة. { مِن دُونِهِ } كالملائكة والمسيح وعزير.
{ فَلاَ يَمْلِكُونَ }
فلا يستطيعون.
{ كَشَفَ ٱلضُّرَّ عَنْكُمْ }
كالمرض والفقر والقحط.
{ وَلاَ تَحْوِيلاً }
ولا تحويل ذلك منكم إلى غيركم.
Say: “Call upon those whom you claim (to be gods)” besides Allah:
such as:
– Angels
– Isa (the Messiah)
– Uzair
“for they have no power” they do not possess power to remove harm from you.
such as:
– Sickness
– Poverty
– Drought
nor can they divert from you to someone else.
