𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐟𝐮𝐥 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐝𝐮𝐜𝐭 𝐨𝐟 ‘𝐔𝐦𝐚𝐫 𝐢𝐛𝐧 𝐚𝐥-𝐊𝐡𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐚𝐛 ﷺ 𝐓𝐨𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬 𝐇𝐢𝐬 𝐖𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐬.

1. He used to Honor Umm Kulthum the daughter of Fatimah and Ali may Allah be pleased with them all.

2. He Kissed his wife even while fasting.

3. Wife of Umar ibn al Khattab kissed his forehead.

4. Umar would not stop his wife to go to Masjid.

1. He used to Honor Umm Kulthum the daughter of Fatimah and Ali may Allah be pleased with them all.

Ibn Kathir, may Allah have mercy on him, said:

تَزَوَّجَ عُمَرُ بْنُ الْخَطَّابِ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ، فِي أَيَّامِ وِلَايَتِهِ بِأُمِّ كُلْثُومٍ بِنْتِ عَلِيِّ بْنِ أَبِي طَالِبٍ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ مِنْ فَاطِمَةَ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهَا، وَأَكْرَمَهَا إِكْرَامًا زَائِدًا ; أَصْدَقَهَا أَرْبَعِينَ أَلْفَ دِرْهَمٍ لِأَجْلِ نَسَبِهَا مِنْ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فَوَلَدَتْ لَهُ زَيْدَ بْنَ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ

“During his reign, ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, married Umm Kulthum, the daughter of ‘Ali ibn Abi Talib, may Allah be pleased with him, from (his wife) Fatimah, may Allah be pleased with her. 𝐇𝐞 𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐫𝐞𝐝 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐲; 𝐡𝐞 𝐠𝐚𝐯𝐞 𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐚 𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐮𝐬𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐝𝐢𝐫𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐬 because of her lineage from the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him. She bore him Zayd ibn ‘Umar ibn al-Khattab.”

2. He Kissed his wife even while fasting.

It was narrated that Umar bin al-Khattab said:

عَنْ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ، رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ هَشَشْتُ يَوْمًا فَقَبَّلْتُ وَأَنَا صَائِمٌ فَأَتَيْتُ النَّبِيَّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَقُلْتُ صَنَعْتُ الْيَوْمَ أَمْرًا عَظِيمًا فَقَبَّلْتُ وَأَنَا صَائِمٌ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ أَرَأَيْتَ لَوْ تَمَضْمَضْتَ بِمَاءٍ وَأَنْتَ صَائِمٌ قُلْتُ لَا بَأْسَ بِذَلِكَ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ فَفِيمَ‏.‏

I was in good spirits one day 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐤𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐞𝐝 (𝐦𝐲 𝐰𝐢𝐟𝐞) 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐈 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐟𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠. I came to the Prophet ﷺ and said: I have done something serious. I kissed (my wife) when I was fasting. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “What do you think if you rinse your mouth with water when you are fasting?` I said: There is nothing wrong with it. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Then why (are you worried)?` [Sahih Dar us salam: Musnad Ahmad 138]

3. Wife of Umar ibn al Khattab kissed his forehead.

، أَنَّ عَاتِكَةَ ابْنَةَ زَيْدِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ نُفَيْلٍ، – امْرَأَةَ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ – كَانَتْ تُقَبِّلُ رَأْسَ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ وَهُوَ صَائِمٌ فَلاَ يَنْهَاهَا ‏.‏

Atika bint Zayd ibn Amr ibn Nufayl, the wife of Umar ibn al-Khattab, used to 𝐤𝐢𝐬𝐬 𝐔𝐦𝐚𝐫 𝐢𝐛𝐧 𝐚𝐥-𝐊𝐡𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐚𝐛’𝐬 𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐝 𝐰𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐟𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠, and he did not tell her not to.

4. Umar would not stop his wife to go to Masjid.

عَنْ عَاتِكَةَ بِنْتِ زَيْدِ بْنِ عَمْرِو بْنِ نُفَيْلٍ، امْرَأَةِ عُمَرَ بْنِ الْخَطَّابِ أَنَّهَا كَانَتْ تَسْتَأْذِنُ عُمَرَ بْنَ الْخَطَّابِ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ فَيَسْكُتُ فَتَقُولُ وَاللَّهِ لأَخْرُجَنَّ إِلاَّ أَنْ تَمْنَعَنِي ‏.‏ فَلاَ يَمْنَعُهَا ‏

Atika bint Zayd ibn Amr ibn Nufayl, the wife of Umar ibn al-Khattab, used to ask Umar ibn al-Khattab for permission to go to the mosque. He would keep silent, so she would say, 𝐁𝐲 𝐀𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐡, 𝐈 𝐰𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐠𝐨 𝐨𝐮𝐭, 𝐮𝐧𝐥𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐛𝐢𝐝 𝐦𝐞,” 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐞 𝐰𝐨𝐮𝐥𝐝 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐛𝐢𝐝 𝐡𝐞𝐫. . [Muwatta Imam Maalik : Book 14, Hadith 14]
